In fact, some practitioners of natural medicine recommend megadoses of certain vitamins, minerals, herbs or other dietary supplements for specific conditions. An example is the common recommendation to take high doses of vitamin C when suffering from a cold.

However, do not take higher doses without the guidance of your doctor, nutritionalist or holistic practitioner, as many vitamins and minerals are toxic in certain amounts. Furthermore, a higher intake of one substance might cause an imbalance in another substance, and some of these natural supplements can counteract other medications.

Just because vitamins, minerals, herbs and other dietary supplements are natural doesn't mean they can't do harm. Use common sense and approach supplements responsibly.
